Il n&#8217;eut jamais \u00e0 Paris d&#8217;exposition d&#8217;ensemble dans une grande galerie, ce point de d\u00e9part de toute r\u00e9putation nationale. Il v\u00e9cut dans la pudeur, dans ce refus instinctif de la r\u00e9clame qui fut \u00e0 la fois sa force et la limite de sa notori\u00e9t\u00e9. Pourtant, tout au long de sa vie, son \u0153uvre fut r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e au public \u2014 \u00e0 Paris, \u00e0 Reims, en province \u2014 et toujours avec la m\u00eame exigence
